School Readiness Courses

Kindergarten Readiness Date: June 21 - August 2, on Tuesdays only Time: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Age: Entering kindergartners Cost: $45 Instructor: TBD Kindergarten is an amazing time! It is full of opportunities to explore, to experience, to learn and play. Young children are wigglers and doers, therefore, summer Kindergarten Readiness will focus on fun and dynamic activities where children will be guided towards making connections with reading, writing, math concepts, social skills and scientific inquiry. Each day will be theme based reflecting the interest of the young child. The kindergarten jitters will fade away as each child discovers that being a learner is a joy in itself. This course is open to all students in the community.

1st Grade Readiness Date: June 21 - August 2, on Tuesdays only Time: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Age: Entering 1st Grade Cost: $45 Instructor: TBD MATH – Appropriate grade level skills reviewed, practiced and introduced using hands-on methods including math, computer, games and manipulatives. READING CLUB – A more informal approach to reading through literature circles. Students will come to class having read assigned books and participate in discussion of the book material. Discussions will strengthen their understanding of story. This course is open to all students in the community.

2nd - 3rd Grade Readiness Date: June 21 - August 2, on Tuesdays only Time: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Age: Entering 2nd or 3rd Grade Cost: $45 Instructor: TBD MATH – Appropriate grade level skills reviewed, practiced and introduced using hands-on methods including the math, games and manipulatives. READING CLUB – A more informal approach to reading through literature circles. Students will come to class having read assigned chapters and participate in discussion of the book material. Discussions will strengthen their understanding of story and literary elements, and inferential reasoning. This course is open to all students in the community.

4th - 5th Grade Readiness Date: June 21 - August 2, on Tuesdays only Time: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Age: Entering 4th or 5th Grade Cost: $45 Instructor: TBD MATH – Appropriate grade level skills reviewed, practiced and introduced using hands-on methods including the Smart Board, computer, games and manipulatives. READING CLUB – A more informal approach to reading through literature circles. Students will come to class having read assigned chapters and participate in discussion of the book material. Discussions will strengthen their understanding of story and literary elements, inferential reasoning, and genres. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY – A 30 minute physical break will be taken mid-morning with an emphasis on lifelong aerobic and strength exercises. Some ball skills will be taught as well. This course is open to all students in the community.

6th - 8th Grade Readiness Date: June 21 - August 2, on Tuesdays only Time: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Age: Entering 6th, 7th or 8th Grade Cost: $45 Instructor: TBD   Description: TBD This course is open to all students in the community.
