Jennifer Bengel
FINE ARTS AND COOKING
Hello! My name is Jen Bengel and I am so excited about teaching some fun summer classes this year! I have been teaching for six years and have my bachelor’s degree from the University of Oshkosh in elementary education grades 1-8. I am completing my master’s degree this summer as a reading specialist grades K-12 from the University of South Alabama. I recently moved back to the Appleton area after living in Alabama for five years, where I taught sixth and third grades. I am excited to be back in Northeast Wisconsin!
I am married and have three children. Sophie is eleven, Malaya is eight, and Greyson is six. They keep me very busy! I love to read, shop, cook, exercise, and spend time with my family. In the summer we like to spend a lot of time on our boat and camping. I look forward to having a lot of fun learning and getting to know some great students this summer! Go to Ms. Bengel's classes. Mauricio Bolaños
FOREIGN LANGUAGE SCHOOL: SPANISH
I was born and raised in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. When I was fifteen years old my family decided to move to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Ever since I was in high school I was surrounded by many ethnic groups, which I found amazing. It was then when I realized how exiting it was share cultural beliefs and traditions with others. It has always been my interest to share my culture and the culture of all Latin American countries. Teaching Spanish is one of my passions in life. I completed my degree at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. I reside in Appleton with my husband and children. I worked for Milwaukee Public Schools assisting children with special needs. I also worked for the School District of New London as an interpreter and translator. I truly enjoy every minute of teaching the Spanish language and sharing my Hispanic culture with others. Dionis Montero ('Mr. D')
FOREIGN LANGUAGE SCHOOL: SPANISH
My love of sports and games started very early. My first sport as a child was baseball. Then I took on track and field. Later I played soccer and basketball. I also played professional basketball and volleyball in the Dominican Republic where I grew up. For the last ten years I have been coaching sports at the YMCA. As you can see, I love sports and am excited to be doing the Spanish Immersion courses. What a fantastic way to learn Spanish! Go to Mr. D's class. |

Dr. Tim Flood

Dr. Tim Flood has been a Professor of Geology for over 20 years as St. Norbert College. His specialty is research in volcanology and field geology. Sam Goeben

Hello! My name is Sam Goeben. I am a 2010 Graduate of St. Norbert College in Elementary/Middle School Education, with a Math Minor. I grew up in Seymour, WI, just 20 minutes away from De Pere. I student taught in 1st and 7th grade classrooms and loved each one!! I am looking forward to teaching in grades 1-8 for the 2010-2011 school year. I believe we all learn best when we find our own connections and make the material meaningful to our own lives; I strive for this in my classroom. Aside from teaching, I love music (I play the flute and piano) and being outside. I love trying new things and am always willing to lend a helping hand. Diane Hamil
FINE ARTS
Diane Hamil has been teaching art to students since her graduation from Rockford College, Magna Cum Laude, with a BFA and a minor in Education in 1983. She has also attended U.W. Oshkosh and Silver Lake College to complete her Masters Degree. She is a standing member of Phi Theta Kappa since 1982.
Previous to receiving her degree, she was employed as an Assistant Art Director, an Advertising Design and Layout Artist, and is a published artist with TSR, Inc. She has participated in many art shows, and has had gallery shows in Wisconsin and Illinois. Ms. Hamil also won a place in the U.S. National Fine Arts Competition & International Exhibition. She has worked with special needs as well as gifted art students, both in private and public school settings.
Ms. Hamil is an active working artist, promoting art and its importance through contributions to area shows and galleries. Ms. Hamil has also been a teacher at the Young Artist's Workshops

Yvette Howes

Trilingual in French, Spanish and Italian, Yvette Howes grew up speaking French at home and learning English at school. She has a degree in psychology and linguistics, taught, translated and lived abroad. Moreover, she obtained her Montessori training from the University of Rome in Perugia, Italy. A native to the De Pere area, I am currently a student at St. Norbert College, beginning my third year studying English and Secondary Education. I first became aware of how fun and interactive language arts can be when I was in middle school. My English teacher inspired me with so many creative and analytical projects, which at the time I only knew to be fun. George Reynolds
MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE
Mr. Reynolds has a BA degree from Silver Lake College in Art and Computer Science and a Masters from Cardinal Stritch University in Visual Arts. He is currently working on his Masters in Education at University of Milwaukee. Teaching for eight years at the elementary level for Art and Technology he has developed engaging and exciting lessons that lead the student to new and empowering fields of study. Having spent a great deal of time working with technology in the field, he brings real world practical industry and technology development examples into the classroom for students to experience. Patrick Sheedy
MUSIC AND FILM PRODUCTION
Patrick Sheedy is actually an MBA graduate from Marquette University but once was the director of one of the most successful at-risk education programs in Milwaukee. He has over 23 years of expereince working with gifted and at-risk students from 3rd graders up to high school students. He has primarily taught multimedia, combining music and film with computer technology. Qiuhong Yang
FOREIGN LANGUAGE SCHOOL / MANDARIN
Joan loves children and likes to share her knowledge and experiences with her students. She has more than 10-year teaching experiences in China, Canada, and U.S.A. As a member of Michigan Chinese Teacher’s Association, she was a full time Chinese teacher at Friends School in Detroit, where she taught Chinese language and culture classes for elementary and middle school students.
Joan also taught at American Chinese School of Great Detroit (ACSGD) for several years. The classes she offered were advanced Chinese (for Chinese AP), Chinese culture, and HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) class; she was a team coach and organizer/judge for Michigan Chinese Culture Contest. At same time, she worked as a coordinator of HSK in Greater Detroit Area. Joan also served as a supervisor of Detroit-Beijing summer camp in the past three years.
